POWERS UNITE!

Photographers Sølve Sundsbø and Erwin Blumenfeld are two men far removed from one another in time, but perhaps not in spirit.

Blumenfeld is famous not only for his experimentation on set and in the darkroom, but his love of photography as a surreal and impartial filter. “Beauty is not pretty,” he said in a 1944 interview… A seemingly counter-intuitive statement, but a truth he would help the world realize through his work.

Sundsbø is likewise famous for his experimentation, albeit in an era of new technology and possibilities. “People assume my work has been through a computer, but actually I use a lot of old-fashioned techniques,” he says. Something Blumenfeld surely would have appreciated.

The Art + Commerce Image Archive has combined Sundsbø and Blumenfeld’s photographs with a track by Readymade FC. The result is a video we absolutely cannot stop watching. You try!
