KEKE LINDGARD | REALWAY VS. RUNWAY

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Keke, who hails from Hawaii, took us by storm this past show season. In Hawaii, when it rains, it pours, and it was practically pouring Keke in Europe. With glowing young features like hers we could only imagine how inspiring it was to work with her fresh face. Some of the different makeup results are below — what do you think?

This might be a short work week for those in the US, but the international campaign season is not over just yet. While we can’t help but look forward to the holiday and the feast that awaits us in Long Island, Manhattan, Astoria, Brooklyn, Maryland, and St. Barth, this week is promising a lot of work. Here’s a video to set the tone for all the busy worker bees. Movement brings change…

PHOTO POP QUIZ

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Soon it will be that time of year again — time to be thankful, sit around the table with your entire family and dig into a meal of epic proportions. What is this time of year known better for than the historic tale of Pilgrims and Indians coming together to share in the bounty of the New World? It is the time to remember stories like that of the Native Americans introducing the European colonialists to the wonder of corn. With that in mind, we decided there is no better way to pre-celebrate the holiday than with a Photo Pop Quiz about corn!

The images below have at least one ear of corn in each shot. Can you match the photographers’ to the images below?

1. Stephen Lewis
2. Ellen von Unwerth
3. David LaChapelle
4. Erwan Frotin

SAD GOODBYE

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Daul Kim was a special person and her one-of-a-kind personality coupled with her striking features took her far in the world of modeling. Every project she participated in was unique and imaginative. The news of her passing is a terrible surprise to all of us here at Art + Commerce. We send our sincere condolences and sympathy to her family, friends and colleagues.

SCREEN GEMS

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

We always love to hear successful photographers speak about their influences and development as artists. A new video series on SHOWstudio’s website called “In Fashion” features interviews on just this subject. They’ve already interviewed designer Marios Schwab, photographer Tim Walker and PR maven Mandi Lennard. The latest edition features one of our personal faves, Sølve Sundsbø. Take a peek at the beautifully-directed interview below, and be sure to check out the others in SHOWsutdio’s In Fashion series.

THE NIGHT BECOMES HER

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

A lot of attention has been given to the All American portraits of Dree Hemingway shot by Sebastian Faena for V Magazine, yet we find ourselves more drawn to the darker mood of a particular shot. The long exposure shot at dusk in an abandoned building in Fort Tilden Park has a more spectral quality than the rest of the story. We love the use of long exposure to enhance the gritty texture of the entire scene, and it’s no surprise it was the last shot on a long day of shooting in a seemingly remote and forgotten NYC park.

NICOLA HAFFMANS | REALWAY VS. RUNWAY

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Nicola Haffmans is something special — with a personality as distinctive as her face, we are happy so many casting directors acknowledged her potential this past runway season. Her bookings were top tier, and we are sure her striking looks and sweet personality will take her far. We also loved that she was one of the only models in NYC this season with a European-style motorcycle chauffeur. We chose a “day look” and a “night look” from her recent bookings for this week’s Realway vs. Runway. Which look do you like best?

THE LOVE BOAT

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Even though some of us we were in diapers when The Love Boat was still afloat, there are a few of us who remember the show with great fondness. Whether you were a fan of The Captain, Gopher, Vicky or Julie McCoy, there was a character for everyone on the show. When we came upon these opening credits on RetroJunk recently, we were surprised to see the weekly romantic voyage was so fashion friendly. Guests included Halston, Bob Mackie and Gloria Vanderbilt. Not only are we impressed by this guest roster, the song never gets old!
