When a model comes in for a go see, there are a few questions we just can’t wait to ask them. One thing we love asking is what their job was before being whisked away to NYC for a modeling career. We are never disappointed by their answers, which range from student to waitress to police cadet (really!). Occasionally we find a real gem, as is the case with Michael Elmquist, who recently signed with DNA. We were absolutely thrilled when Michael told us about his old job as a radio engineer for KKIN 94.3 FM in Minnesota. After working behind the scenes for so many years, we can’t wait to see what he does in the spotlight!

We have been fans of Vanessa Paradis for as long as we can remember. Some of us are a little too young to be original fans, but regardless she has remained one of the most fashionable and chic women around. The September issue of AnOther Magazine features the gap-toothed siren on one of its four covers, shot by Hedi Slimane. The other covers feature Natalie Portman, also shot by Slimane, as well as Kate Moss and Katie Holmes, shot by Craig McDean. We can hardly wait for the issue to hit the stands!

Last season Alla was one of those girls whose name spread like wildfire through the offices of casting directors everywhere. As one of the girls debuting with the new agency Women Direct, Alla stood out with her long golden locks, chiseled features and piercing stare. Designers have certainly caught on to this girl, and more often than not chose to pull back Alla’s hair to emphasize her features. Take a look at the selection of looks from this past season and tell us: which Alla is your fave?

We love Grace Jones: her image, her music, and recently the many references to her career in fashion. We love it all!!!
To prove there is a good reason for all the homages, take a look at her music video for “I’ve Seen that Face Before,” from her 1981 record Nightclubbing. Shot by her then lover Jean Paul Goude, we get a clear sense from this video that Grace Jones knew how to capture the spotlight. We think the visual concept in the video is fabulous!

In the few years that Tyler Riggs has been modeling he has built a nice portfolio for himself, not only as a fixture in the world of male models, but also as photographer. He most recently shot fellow model Lyle Lodwick for webzines such as Contributing Editor. Hailing from Florida (which we would never have guessed by looking at him), Tyler has developed made quite a name for himself in the Big Apple. We hope to see him both in front of an behind the camera for seasons to come!

The September Issue of Vogue is here. After a solid thirty minutes of pouring over every page, making note of all the most recent ad campaigns, we were thrilled to encounter the fall editorials. Our fave was Steven Meisel’s “In the Mood,” in which we get a glimpse into the romanticized era of the 1940s. We had so much fun scouting old timey locations for the shoot, and we love how perfectly the fashions of today fit in this fantasy world of classically beautiful girls in pristine antique surroundings. Which of the 3 locations do you you prefer in the story?

There exists a special breed of model whose steady and solid bookings continue season after season without threatening the girl’s career with overexposure. Tao Okamoto at Supreme belongs to this category. The young model, who we first fell in love with back in March, has recently been wooing clients left and right. And rightfully so! She has the ability to add a pinch of classy edge to just about any show. You say you need proof? Well take a look below!
