Natasa V / REALWAY VS. RUNWAY

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

If such a title existed, Natasa V is what some may call a model veteran. She has walked down innumerable runways and struck many a memorable pose for the past 10 years. Considered one of today’s most versatile models, Natasa V is known for her ability to bestow subtlety on aggressive styles, as well as add a hint of spunk to more delicate looks. With this kind of range, we can’t seem to decide what we think her best role is to date. Take a look at some of her looks over the past few years, and let us know what you think she does best!

UNFOLDING CITIES

A few weeks ago we posted beautiful images of NYC architecture by Adrian Gaut. We fell in love with the way Gaut highlighted the stark geometries in some of our favorite local architecture, so when we saw this video animation of his architectural photography we thought, perfect timing!

RIP MJ

Michael Jackson has been performing for all of us since he was a young boy. He transcended race, nationality, economics, gender and age while also inspiring countless musicians. His songs have livened millions of dance floors, and he single-handedly put the sequined white glove on the fashion map. He brought the moonwalk to the mainstream, he created cutting-edge videos for the MTV generation, and his unique musical genius has touched each and every one of us. RIP MJ.

PATRICK’S PIRELLI

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

The Pirelli Calendar is infamous for many things, namely for its limited run, VIP clientele, and its images of beautiful women by celebrated photographers. Since the mid-1960s, big names such as Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, and Peter Lindbergh have been a part of this exclusive yearly publication.

As we were perusing Patrick Demarchelier’s portfolio, we couldn’t help but take notice of the beautiful lighting and graphic composition of his images for the 2005 Pirelli Calendar. We have always known Demarchelier to be a celebrated photographer, and images such as these prove it was not for nothing that Meryl Streep’s character in The Devil Wears Prada picked up the phone to call him a dozen times during the movie!

Golden Lady

Marcelina Sowa is back, and we can’t stop talking about her! The young beauty first surfaced in the fashion industry several years ago, and immediately she was the favorite of many casting directors. We were in love with her golden skin and solemn stare back then, and we are still in awe of her today. Since her debut we have not seen much of this Polish beauty, so we jumped on the opportunity to meet her when we found out she was in town. We think our pictures of Marcelina say it all. H-O-T.

If you have lived or worked in and around West Village/Chelsea at any point over the past decade, you surely have been hearing about the future of the elevated tracks near 10th Avenue. Now that the first portion of the park has been renovated and opened to the public, we are happy to have such a glorious new park within the vicinity of our offices, and we can’t help but think of all the events the park can now host! It has already been the backdrop for the Calvin Klein Collection anniversary party during the CFDAs. Clearly, the new High Line Park is the spot to see and be seen. We are happy to know that our great city cosigned on such a unique project.

REALWAY VS. RUNWAY / GIEDRE

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

It’s always amazing to see the transformation models undergo during show season. From natural beauty to over-the-top fashion, a model looks good in just about anything. But it takes a before and after comparison to see just how different a girl looks out on the runway. The makeup artists and hairstylists who work during show season really are painters and sculptors, creating new personalities for every girl and every show.

Giedre came in recently for a go-see and we shot some beautiful photos of her in natural light, including the first photo in the series. We found a few beauty details of her from runway shows, and were amazed to see how diverse these styles were. Take a look at the photos below, and tell us which you think is the best look for Giedre!

Today’s issue of WWD included an article about the lovely Walter Pfeiffer. It is great to see this artist embrace the well-deserved attention for his recent work in French Vogue, Vogue Hommes and i-D Magazine. The article got us thinking about how inspiring his work is, which prompted us to scour the internet to find more on this talented soul. We found, and enjoyed, this video interview the artist did for Flasher.

We hate to mention the weather again, but it is days like this one (when the sun peaks out from behind the endless clouds) that we have the chance to see NYC in a new light. We find ourselves continually falling in love with the ever evolving nature of the city’s landscape - its people, its parks, its building. Every time we think we know this city to a tee, it manages to surprise and astound us.

Photographer Adrian Gaut’s abstract closeups of NYC architectural landmarks are a poetic and eye-opening perspective on some of the buildings we see every day. Can you name or locate these buildings, just by looking at their architectural details?
