Everyone loves a cool girl. It might be the way they look, the way they walk, or the way they hold themselves above everyone else in the room. Bara from IMG came to our office today for a go-see, and just like the cool girl she is, she rose to the occasion and began striking poses without asking a single question. We immediately saw the visual resemblance to Anna Paquin and Sandra Bernhardt, and we think her cool-girl ‘tude resembles them as well! She turned it on for the camera and was incredibly fun to shoot. She was moving and posing like a pro, and with great energy in every shot. We were loving every moment of it!
Have you been waking up recently and feeling completely uninspired to do anything special with your hair? Well if you’re like us, you need a little show-and-tell to get your best Mason Pearson brush out and do a seriously fabulous blow out with your favorite Conair dryer. To offer a little visual inspiration we thought we would share a few of our favorite hairdo’s created by Esther Langham. With so many great do’s featured in this Acne Paper editorial, we can’t help but wonder if Esther was all out of ideas by the end of the shoot? We will have to ask her and find out!
Between the AMAZING summer-like weather we have been experiencing recently in NYC and Nathaniel Goldberg’s new cover and editorial for the Vogue Beauty supplement in the June 2009 issue of Vogue Nippon, “The Golden Age,” we have been beaming and glowing for days!
Remember Milana? The buzz and hype that followed this Russian vamp everywhere she went just a few seasons ago may have mellowed, but we think she’s just as hot as ever! Now we finally have proof: we got a chance to meet Milana for a go-see while she was in town from Paris last week, and we have to say we are still totally in love with this blue-eyed and golden-haired siren.
On Mondays we like to post a video we think is fun, uplifting, or has some interesting photographic quality to it. Today, we came across a Wonderbra commercial shot by Richard Avedon in 1979. We are big fans of color photographs from the 1970s, and this commercial has that cool 70s look to it. We thought the theme song was pretty catchy too!
We were charmed by Jamie Isaia’s wistful black and white film of three pretty girls on the beach shot to an understated soundtrack of wind and folk music. The subtle, otherworldly grace of Isaia’s short film “Sand Into Water,” which was commissioned by Swarovski and featured recently in the Birds Eye View film festival Fashion Loves Film, was pretty enchanting.
What we liked most about the film was its ability to navigate the subject of glamour and fashion within a bleak seaside landscape. Plus, we love Jamie’s vague allusion to the Greek myth of The Three Graces in her casting of three long-haired, free-spirited girls.
Lyndsey Scott was one of the most intriguing girls on the runway of Calvin Klein this past season. Not only was she the only ethnic girl to walk the show in quite some time, but she was also one of the few exclusives this season. We were thrilled to finally meet her in our offices last month. Lyndsey is graced with a great attitude and presence. We are big fans of Lyndsey!
In this month’s issue of Interview magazine, Stephanie Seymour, an avid Lanvin collector, sat down with the head designer of the label for a casual, yet intimate chat. One of the strengths of an interview such as this one is that the person conducting the interview has a personal connection to both the interviewee and the subject.
Over lunch in NYC, Elbaz and Seymour discussed the misconception that people in the fashion industry are fake, the relevance of fashion in the face of political strife, how it is sometimes more difficult to talk about fashion than to create designs, and much, much more.
The best part of the feature is we get to see more than one side of Stephanie’s love for Lanvin. Not only does she conduct a captivating interview we couldn’t stop reading, but she also modeled for the images taken by one of our favorite photographers, Glen Luchford!
Today is the 83rd birthday of the Queen of England, so on this occasion we just wanted to say: Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth II! Below are a few fun facts about the Queen:
1. Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom actually has two birthdays; the first is her real birth date, 21 April, but it is officially celebrated on the second Saturday of June.
2. Despite what you may think, the queen does not have a bedroom made of gold!
3. Rigby & Peller are the official corseteres of her majesty.
4. The Queen is an amateur photographer and enjoys taking pictures of her family.
5. She has sat for over 140 official portraits during her reign, and sat for her only hologram portrait in 2003.
6. According to a statute from 1324, which still stands today, the Queen owns all the sturgeons, swans, whales and dolphins in the waters around the UK. In fact if you kill a swan you will suffer jail time as did Shamsu Miah.

We absolutely adore this 1991 flashback with the ever popular Linda Evangelista, who was interviewed by MTV’s Stylissimo. Linda discusses everything from her earliest modeling jobs and her mission to support young designers by walking pro bono in one show per season, to her always changing hair color, Steven Meisel, and whether or not she regrets her infamous quote: “I don’t wake up and get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day.” We found the interview and soundtrack to be a fun watch for a dreary Monday morning!
