Simply the Best Legs

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Today is Tina Turner’s gasp-inducing 69th birthday. Happy Birthday Tina!

And in honor of Tina’s legendary best legs, we would like to celebrate with our pick of some girls with great gams.  Nice as they are, they’ve got nothin’ on Miss Turner!

POWERS UNITE!

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Photographers Sølve Sundsbø and Erwin Blumenfeld are two men far removed from one another in time, but perhaps not in spirit.

Blumenfeld is famous not only for his experimentation on set and in the darkroom, but his love of photography as a surreal and impartial filter. “Beauty is not pretty,” he said in a 1944 interview… A seemingly counter-intuitive statement, but a truth he would help the world realize through his work.

Sundsbø is likewise famous for his experimentation, albeit in an era of new technology and possibilities. “People assume my work has been through a computer, but actually I use a lot of old-fashioned techniques,” he says. Something Blumenfeld surely would have appreciated.

The Art + Commerce Image Archive has combined Sundsbø and Blumenfeld’s photographs with a track by Readymade FC. The result is a video we absolutely cannot stop watching. You try!

Role Model

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Noot Seear has had a very successful modeling career; she has been featured in Yves Saint Laurent, CK Fragrance, and Vera Wang ads.

Not only has Noot has been blessed with great genes, but she also stems from a family that practices philanthropy. Noot’s folks run the Rose Charities, a group that works in collaboration with the ABC Home & Planet Foundation. Noot is not only beautiful; she is also a kind and generous human being. According to us, this equals a total HOT MODEL package!

Recently, Noot has been involved in bringing together charity drives using her name and relationships in the business, to promote a global idea of giving. In addition to the recent drive at Milk Gallery, Noot is also involving herself in the upcoming launch of a charity project web site: Modelinia.com. The site will be a platform for various charities created by the fashion elite. It will also provide a common space to exchange charitable/philanthropic information.

Being the hungry-for-new-information-bloggers we are…we are letting you in on this information as we receive it. Modelinia.com has not been launched, so we will be back to check in with you in mid-December when the online resource is up-and-running!

Almost Famous

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Before the glamorous life of photo production - with all of the sparkling champagne breakfasts, mid-day banana-leaf fanning by a Greek Adonis and our Swarowski-encrusted cellphones* - the lives of the PRODn team were far more modest! (5:00am call times were not always the career objectives of our team members).

Some of our previous resume highlights have included giving guided tours to Russians tourists around London, competing in the World Barista championships, manning the phones at a gay youth crisis hot line, screenprinting numbers on soccer jerseys and serving apple strudel at an Austrian bakery.

Taking a look at our favorite models today, not all of them set out with the runway on their minds either. PRODn favorite Agyness Deyn used to serve mushy peas at her local fish + chip shop, Bianca Balti worked in a supermarket to help finance her schooling, Natalia Vodianova peddled fruit at a market on the street, and Madisyn at Silent invented ice-cream flavors at a local parlor in upstate New York! Perhaps, however, the most renowned ‘before they were famous’ job belongs to Elite’s Coco Rocha who, before she was the face of YSL Fragrance, was a rather talented Irish Dancer. As it’s a freezing cold Friday afternoon, here is a video of Coco in action to warm up your day.

As members of the PRODn team, one of our most frequently asked questions is “What is it like on a Steven Meisel photo shoot?” More often than not, we have difficulty expressing our answer.

But if a picture is worth a thousand words, then this youtube video is worth at least a cool million. Filmed in black and white by Darren Lew and set to a soothing soundtrack from Bizet’s opera “Carmen,” the video provides an insider’s glimpse into the world of Steven Meisels 1998 Italian Vogue “War” editorial featuring top models Gisele Bundchen, Karen Elson, Erin O’Conner, Maggie Rizer, and Audrey Marnay. While the photographer needs no introduction, the video is a rare glimpse into an incredibly private world where beautiful iconic images are made - Enjoy!

She bangs

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Not that long ago, just about EVERY model had bangs. At the time, they seemed to be pushing a certain aesthetic value. This particular hair style has also been known to frame a girl’s face nicely, bringing something special out.

With the fad passing, it’s now safe for even the non-daring girl to go for it. It even turns out that bangs are an unexpectedly practical decision, making any casual hair do a SHOW STOPPER.
