COSTUME COUTURE

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Happy Halloween everyone! Hope your costumes are all stitched and sewn - we at PRODn have been planning ours for weeks!

Even though we are too old to Trick-or-Treat we haven’t outgrown the Halloween Spirit, so we’ve stepped into our virtual Spring/Summer 2009 closet + drew out some seriously spooky habillements.

Below are a few of our picks for dream costumes from this runway season.

Brrrrr - it’s cold out there!

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

The fall season is officially upon us, and we’re starting to shiver at the thought of the looming (dreaded) winter - that time of the year when those pestering sneezes and sniffles take over!

We at PRODn live for all of the cold remedies, whether it’s Airborne, Emergen-C, or even a good old serving of Mom’s Chicken Noodle Soup. But the best way to keep the cold blues away is to stay warm, bundled up, and keep toasty beneath our hand knit scarves and itchy wooly sweaters.

Below, Maryna Linchuk, Anya Kazakova and Iekeliene Stange provide great ideas for layering, wrapping up in fur, and generally pulling together a “cool” winter look.

Exercise in Vanity

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

The New York Post - that tabloid news rag we adore for all things juicy gossip - reported two fabulous tidbits we couldn’t resist to include in our blog.

First up, the NY Post reports that Naomi Campbell is hosting a photography exhibition at the Art Basel Miami in December featuring images of - what else - herself!  It gets better: The images on display include shots of Ms. Campbell in various states of undress.  Curated by Jean Luc Brunel, the exhibition entitled Naomi Campbell Retrospective features work by acclaimed fashion photographers David LaChapelle, Bruce Weber, Patrick Demarchelier, Ellen Von Unwerth and Nick Knight.  [NYP]

In a second story that outdoes Naomi’s exercise in vanity (and how often can you say that!), the Post reports that Sir Elton John only eats off of Versace dishware, “believing the designer’s spirit lives in every plate.”  We’re not sure how we’d feel eating Chicken Milanese and warm goat cheese salad off the spirit of Gianni Versace, but we’re glad it makes Sir Elton happy.  Sure gives another meaning to the word Comfort Food! [NYP]

Below is a vintage video of the Versace Spring 1999 Fashion Show (Donatella’s first show after the death of her brother) featuring Naomi Campbell, along with the Kate Moss, Carolyn Murphy, Christina Kruse, Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, Stella Tennant, Linda Evangelista, Amy Wesson, Carmen Kass, Tasha Tilberg, Angela Lindvall, Erin O’Connor, Kirsten Owen, Danielle Zinaich, Karen Elson and Rhea Durham.

If brilliance runs in the family, then Dree + Vanessa are living proof!

Along with great character, long legs, and stunning faces that caught the eye of our blog, these girls from Elite come from a long line of notable literary talents. You could say that in the ever growing forest of models, these girls have the best family trees!

Dree Hemingway / Elite – The great granddaughter of legendary Ernest Hemingway, this 21 year old aspiring thespian just finished acting school and has a couple of indie films under her belt.

Vanessa Traina / Elite – The daughter of American romance novelist Danielle Steele balances modeling while attending Pepperdine University, and is a staple front row beauty at all the major fashion shows.

These girls are more than just pretty faces. Their legacies range from light summer reading to long winter nights spent in front of the fireplace!!!

Parisian Coquette - Aminata

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Behold: Aminata.

Since being discovered on the streets of Paris two years ago by Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, she has appeared in a number of high echelon shows in Paris and all across the fashion capitals of the world.

PRODn thinks Aminata belongs in that special category of models who hold a true power bolt with their seductive personality, catapulting their status to muse.

We’re Not Conflicted About This One

Meet Madisyn - a 19 years old stunner from Colorado, exclusively represented by Silent Models in Paris. Rather Chic, no?!

As if that isn’t cool enough, Madisyn doesn’t even own an Ipod. Instead, she enjoys reading - Gasp! - literature. And don’t take that interest lightly, as she just finished reading War + Peace. If her looks don’t win you over, her bookish intellect is sure to sweep the rug right out from under your feet.

We think if Madisyn were a character in a novel, she’d be a Nineteenth century Aristocratic debutante, entering the court, stealing the hearts of all the gallant suitors, and starting many a duel amongst them!

Dear Diary… Rock Diary, that is!

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

It happened again! Just weeks after announcing Edward Enninful is joining part of the Art+Commerce family, we are happy to hear that our fashion demigod Hedi Slimane is being added to the A+C team!

Officially, the announcement reads as follows:

Art + Commerce is pleased to announce exclusive representation of Hedi Slimane, a singular talent whose vision crosses one boundary after another: fashion, photography, curating, publishing, industrial design. Slimane is perhaps best known as the creative director of Dior Homme from 2000 to 2007, a role which earned him a CFDA Designer of the Year award in 2002. He has worked as a photographer for French Vogue, Vanity Fair, V, VMan, Purple, and Dazed & Confused. Among the nine books of photography Slimane has published is London Birth of a Cult, a document of London’s postmillenial rock scene viewed through the eyes of Pete Doherty. Slimane has designed compelling architectural spaces from Paris to Shanghai and recently created an original furniture system for Comme des Garçons.” (Editor note: we NEED this furniture!!!)

But this Blog Post is not just lip service… We’ve been obsessed for YEARS! With his debut collection at Dior Homme in 2000, Slimane elevated the Rocker Chic aesthetic to a fine art form, transforming the gritty into the expensive and making subculture sublime. (Case in point: Slimane fashioned an entire Dior Homme collection after Pete Doherty, the rock and roll bad boy equally known for dating Kate Moss, and fronting the Brit band The Libertines.) Below, we’ve pulled some of our favorite looks from the Doherty-inspired Spring ‘06 Dior Homme collection, and if you ever have a chance to meet the secret personalities behind the PRODn Blog, you’d know Slimane’s aesthetic has had a lasting effect.

Ipod Playlist: Harry / Request

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Go-Sees are a great way to keep updated and informed. We love seeing which models are in town, what they are shooting, and how they look in person. They’re also great at keeping other things up to speed… like our iPod playlists!

Take Harry at Re:Quest, for instance. This youthful and bright British cutie passed by our offices and gave us some great music suggestions to download.

In the recent New York show season, Harry walked Duckie Brown, DKNY, Hyden Hyoo, Antonio Azzuelo, Loden Dager, and his favorite, Patrick Ervell. Equally impressive, Harry’s iPod playlist is filled with classics and provide insight as to how attuned - Pun intended! - he is to the rock+roll scene. He may look young, but his music preferences reveal an older soul. Below are some recent pictures we snapped of Harry, as well as his fave songs in heavy rotation.

Harry / Re:Quest Models

What’s on Harry’s Ipod:

Ballad Of a Thin Man - Bob Dylan.
Pablo Picasso - Modern Lovers.
Breaking Glass - David Bowie.
Terrapin - Syd Barrett.
Rock & Roll - The Velvet Underground.
Andy’s Chest - Lou Reed.
Reward - The Teardrop Explodes.

That Good Light

Friday, October 10th, 2008

It takes a special kind light to bring out great qualities in a face…A cinematic sparkle of sun that reveals subtle and timeless attributes.

On a gorgeously sunny day, our PRODn skylight makes us excited about a casual go-see. Take a look at these great shots we captured this afternoon.

We ♥ skylights!!
