Lament of The Polaroid

Friday, August 29th, 2008

You know that old saying, “You never know what you have until it’s gone?” It’s true. Last February, when Polaroid announced that they would discontinue all of their instant film and camera products, we — obsessive users of Polaroid — took a step back and said, “Wait. What? WHAT!?”

Almost overnight, fashionmongers of all walks started scouring the city searching for the last remaining caches of film and cameras. Fast-forward to September 2008 and you can forget the rising price of gas… With supplies expected to be completely tapped by 2009, Polaroid Spectra has found itself a black market of sorts, boasting price increases of almost 200% for a measly 10-pack. Imagine gas going from the national average of $3.09/gallon in February to $9.27/gallon in September. Yikes!

As with any type of change, adaptation is key. Looking towards the future, PRODn has been experimenting with digital photography and different printing techniques in an attempt to replicate the raw and unadulterated nature of the Polaroid. Impossible? No. Irreplaceable? We think so.

Here’s to you, Polaroid.

Art of Fashion

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Who loves art? PRODn does. Who loves Fashion? Yes, you guessed it. And with the recent publication of Neiman Marcus’ “The Art of Fashion” shot by Raymond Meier, we couldn’t be more in love.

Neiman Marcus inaugurated “The Art of Fashion” in 1994 and below we invite you to take a walk through the woods in this most recent installment via some of our favorite images, and also check out the girls as we saw them in their go-sees before shooting began.

Photographed over four days in April at Meier’s SoHo studio, we cast this 33-page spread with some of our faves: Denisa Dvorkova (One), Rachel Clark (Supreme), Olga Sherer (One), and Alana Zimmer (Supreme).

Angelica

Angelica from Marilyn (Just to make sure, that’s Angelica-with-a-C not to be confused with our other fave Angelika-with-a-K) descended upon our PRODn offices to begin a flurry of Model Go-See’s for New York’s upcoming S’09 Fashion Week. And we couldn’t have been happier to see such a bright and lovely face, matching her equally bright and lovely personality.

With only our bare white brick wall, and a wooden chair pulled from the sidelines, Angelica lit up the office and captured these magnificent shots. The outline on her shirt is perfectly suited for how we felt about this adorable Brazilian charmer - we heart her!

Heavenly Pop

Sebastian Faena photographed six collectible covers showcasing our favorite flying nuns Naomi Campbell, Amber Valetta, Natalia Vodianova, Jourdan Dunn, Oluchi, and Agyness Deyn all in delightful abbey-chic looks inspired by the real women of the cloth.

PRODn produced all six cover shoots between June 5th-9th, 2008; with an exclusive soundtrack by Madonna, Beyonce, and Rihanna, and music from David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.
